Thousands in Haiti march on Aristide's birthday

Hundreds of supporters of Haiti's Fanmi Lavalas political party marched on the streets of Port-au-Prince to celebrate the birthday of its founder and former president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide.Singing songs and holding signs with photographs of the former president, supporters marched from downtown to gather in front of Aristide's house, but the 69-year-old former president did not appear to greet the supporters.

Aristide has kept mostly a low profile since his participation in the 2016 election when he campaigned for his party's unsuccessful presidential candidate. But he has long been one of Haiti's most polarizing politicians and is still popular with many in the country.
