With temperatures soaring to 45C in the Iraqi capital on Saturday, zookeepers at the Baghdad Zoo have put in special measures to help animals stay cool in the summer heat. Hosing the animals with cold water, using air coolers and makeshift sprinkler systems were some of the ways being used to help bring a much-needed respite for the animals in the zoo.

A pool was specially built for the Siberian tigers to cool down, while bears, monkeys, and horses were splashed with water using the makeshift sprinkler system. Located in Baghdad's Zawraa Park, the zoo has since made a comeback, however, and now houses over 1,000 animals.
