The Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is implementing a project for reducing and protection of street children.

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has been initiated the project since September 2021. The initial plans included choosing the townships, fund estimation, designated the Drop-in Center for sheltering the street children and project period designation. A training for the volunteers to be involved in the project was conducted from 25th to 27th April.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister held a coordination meeting with the officials from the private special schools, vocational training schools and rehabilitation centers for the persons with disabilities.

The Union Minister stressed to apply for the permission, and the designated fee for the permission will be added to the fund for the rights of the persons with disabilities. Officials from Region and State Social Welfare Departments and 22 private special schools discussed the obstacles in the process for applying the permission, and the Union minister and officials coordinated the requirements.

According to Section (13) of the Law on the rights of persons with disabilities and Section (10) of its bylaw, the private special schools, vocational training schools and rehabilitation centers for the persons with disabilities can be opened officially in line with the laws, rules and regulations. 8 schools have been granted permission in Yangon Region.
