Mexico's president announced he has come down with COVID-19 a second time. López Obrador said on Twitter that his symptoms were "light," and that he would remain in isolation until he had recovered. Two of the president's cabinet secretaries, the heads of the Environment and Economy departments had tested positive in recent days.

Earlier Monday, the president told Mexicans to just assume they had COVID-19 if they had symptoms, after the number of confirmed cases in the country almost tripled over the past week.  López Obrador described the omicron variant as "a little COVID," noting hospitalizations and deaths had not increased at the same rate. However, experts say those are both lagging indicators that may not show up for weeks after infections spike.
