Reaction as Australia denies entry to Djokovic

Australians reacted on Thursday after Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic was denied entry into the country after he failed to meet the requirements for an exemption to COVID-19 vaccination rules.

Djokovic was believed to have been taken to a hotel in Melbourne where he was awaiting deportation out of the country. Before he landed in Australia, Djokovic announced on social media that he had "exemption permission" after receiving a medical exemption from the Victorian state government. But federal border authorities did not accept the exemption.  The 20-time major winner had to wait more than eight hours at the airport to find out if he would be allowed into the country.
