Senegal president inaugurates new express train

President of Senegal Macky Sall launched the operating phase of a new train line on Monday. It is worth more than $1.3 billion.

The Regional Express Train, or TER, will connect the city of Dakar to the new city of Diamniadio, around 40km to the east. It is expected to carry some 115,000 passengers daily. Speaking at the launch, Macky Sall said the goal of the train is to spreading out the country's economy. The TER, one of the flagship projects of the Emerging Senegalese Plan (PSE), should link downtown Dakar to the new Blaise-Diagne International Airport, located about 60 km from the Senegalese capital. The construction of this TER will also help relieve traffic congestion in Dakar.
