Gift card offer entices Israelis to get vaccinated

Israel began vaccinating adults and children at shopping malls on Sunday. Anyone can be vaccinated without an appointment and receive a gift card for pizza, coffee and cake, ice-cream or a juice.

Israel was one of the first countries to vaccinate its population and the first to give booster shots. But the campaign has lagged in recent weeks and hundreds of thousands of people remain unvaccinated or without a booster because of an omicron surge looms.

The campaign, which still requires bureaucratic approvals, may begin in the coming days with people over 60 and health-care workers.
