In the United States, airlines canceled hundreds of flights Saturday as staffing issues tied to COVID-19 disrupted holiday celebrations during one of the busiest travel times of the year.

Delta, United and JetBlue on Friday had all said the omicron variant was causing staffing problems leading to flight cancellations. Some holiday travelers are not letting the coronavirus or flight cancellations prevent them from enjoying their trips.

Daniela Popa, traveling from Cleveland said "So we thought, you know, it's going to be packed, we need to be there early. Luckily, we got a direct flight."

Andre Popa, traveling from Cleveland said "It's exciting, so it's worth a trip to see family. So we're probably going to get out a little bit driving around, see how it is out here."

Flight delays and cancellations tied to staffing shortages have been a regular problem for the U.S. airline industry this year.
