


Australia's most populous state of New South Wales announced on Sunday that it detected a record 6,394 new COVID-19 cases in the latest reporting period.
As cases of the omicron variant continue to rise in New South Wales, state Health Minister Brad Hazzard said that he believed many residents would eventually contract the virus.
SOUNDBITE (English) Brad Hazzard, New South Wales Health Minister said "Bottom line here is that we would expect that pretty well everybody in New South Wales at some point will get omicron. We're all going to get omicron and if we're all going to get omicron, the best way to face it is when we have full vaccination including our booster."
In total, 458 people are in hospital with COVID-19 in the state, including 52 in intensive care
