Kentucky's governor says a federal state of emergency has been granted by President Joe Biden after a tornado outbreak Friday night killed more than 80 people in Mayfield and other communities.

Andy Beshear, Governor of Kentucky said “we have over 300 guardsmen that are active, they are out in our communities. They are doing everything from going door-to-door, though, though many of these communities, we don't have doors anymore, they're going rubble-to-rubble searching, hopefully for survivors, but otherwise to at least have certainty for families that we can advise them of their loss. They're doing debris removal, and they are also helping out in law enforcement capacity where needed.

The storms hit a candle factory in Kentucky, an Amazon facility in Illinois and a nursing home in Arkansas.  The governor  initially warned that the state’s overall death toll from the outbreak of twisters Friday night in Mayfield and other communities could exceed 100.
