US officials: boosters help protect against omicron

U.S. health authorities are urging Americans to get COVID-19 boosters, as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration widens the eligibility for coronavirus vaccinations. 

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said "Although we don't have all the answers on the omicron variant, initial data suggest that COVID-19 boosters help to bolster protection against omicron.  

On Thursday, the FDA gave emergency authorization for 16- and 17-year-olds to get a third dose of the vaccine made by Pfizer and its partner BioNTech.
