Mexico began a national booster vaccination plan against the coronavirus on Tuesday.  People over 60 years of age will receive a third dose, in six of the 32 states of the country. Among the first to receive a booster was President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The AstraZeneca vaccine will be the only one used for the booster and it will be applied to people who have completed the primary immunization scheme before June. The plan comes four days after health authorities confirmed the first case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus in a 51-year-old businessman from South Africa, who was admitted to a private hospital in Mexico City.
