Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden spoke via a video call on Tuesday amid tensions between the two countries over Ukraine. Biden was expected to warn Putin that Russia will face further sanctions if it invades Ukraine, which has seen tens of thousands of Russian troops amassed near its border. Putin was expected to demand guarantees from Biden that the NATO military alliance will never expand to include Ukraine, which has long sought membership. Ahead of the Putin call, Biden on Monday spoke with leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy to coordinate messaging and potential sanctions.
