Rihanna, the popstar from Barbados thanked to the people of her country and the Prime Minister for being declared a national hero on Tuesday. National Hero of Barbados, Rihanna said"Prime Minister Mia Mottley, thank you so much for honoring me in this way. I have traveled the world and received several awards and recognitions, but nothing, nothing compares to be recognized in the soil that you grew in. So I thank you so much for this. Thank you."

She was given the title as the island bade farewell to Queen Elizabeth II as head of state and celebrated becoming a republic for the first time in its history. It is the first time in more than 20 years that Barbados has bestowed such an honour: the last person to receive the title was former cricket player Garfield Sobers.
