Chile rolled back to social distancing restrictions, amid a rise of COVID-19 cases despite a high vaccination rate and an extended campaign for booster doses among those vulnerable.

Most of the new cases are due to the more contagious COVID-19 Delta variant. Capital Santiago has the highest records of new cases in the country. Nearly 92 percent of the target population has been fully immunized in Chile, and those vulnerable are eligible for a booster shot. Minors between 6-11 years are now being vaccinated.
