Merkel receives Slovenia's Order of Extraordinary Merit

German chancellor Angela Merkel was awarded with Slovenia's "Order of Extraordinary Merit" on Tuesday.

Slovenian President presented Merkel with the medal on the sidelines of the EU's Western Balkan Summit for her trust-inspiring EU leadership.

Merkel, who is on her way out as Germany's chancellor, said that the European Union needed to better understand the history of its newer member states, alluding to ongoing problems with its eastern member states like Poland and Hungary.
