Immunocompromised people in England will be offered a third coronavirus vaccine, the UK Health Secretary announced on Wednesday.

UK Health Secretary, Sajid Javid said "The reason that we are doing this is based on the advice of the JCVI and the data that they've seen. It suggests that people in such a situation that are immunosuppressed, they may not have the same level of protection from two doses that other people do. That's why we think it's absolutely right that we top up their protection by offering this third dose as part of their primary vaccine schedule."

Sajid Javid said the government was following the advice of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) and would offer anyone aged 12 or over with a weakened immune system a third dose. The Health Secretary said the vaccine booster programme "remains on track" to start later this month.
