Nearly 200 couples tied the knot during a mass wedding ceremony in Lima amid an unrelenting coronavirus pandemic.

The brides and grooms gathered for the marriage service on Saturday led by local officials including Lima Mayor Jorge Muñoz. Among the couples marking their commitment to each other were Santiago Loyola Sifuentes, 82, and Olga Velásquez Laurencio, 87.

Bride Judith Tataje Agurto said the ceremony had been "beautiful" and had gone beyond her imagination. Mass weddings are common in Peru, having been created by the local government in order to ease the financial burden for many struggling partners.
