The Taliban were in full control of Kabul's international airport on Tuesday, after the last U.S. plane left its runway, marking the end of America's longest war.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said "they have achieved their independence and they were able to force the Americans to leave after 20 years." Getting the Hamid Karzai International airport running again is just one of the sizeable challenges.
In the interview, Mujahid also discussed restarting operations at the airport, which remains a key way out for those wanting to leave the country. he said there will be a plan for the airport to resume its activities.
The technical teams are inspecting if anything is destroyed so they can fix it and normal flights can resume from Afghanistan so their traders and passengers can fly safely". Mujahid also said "a government will be announced soon, all government offices will reopen, the banks and the economy will start moving, the country will take steps towards prosperity, far from war and insecurity, people will return to their normal lives."
