Merkel marks founding anniversary of Greenpeace

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said "climate change was the biggest threat on our earth" at an anniversary event for Greenpeace in Stralsund on Monday.

She said everyone must do their part to protect the climate at their own level. But without multilateral action little to nothing works.

Merkel celebrated the work that the organization carried out, but condemned an event in which a Greenpeace protester parachuted into a football stadium, saying it endangered stadium visitors and the activist. Merkel, Germany's leader since 2005, has chosen not to run in the country's Sept. 26 parliamentary election. three years ago, she said that she wouldn't seek a fifth term.
