
A collision between two boats in a river in the Amazon of northeastern Peru left at least 12 dead and 9 people missing, authorities said on Sunday.
The crash took place on early Sunday when a wooden boat, which carried 60 adults and 20 minors, hit the pusher craft that was towing the ship "Urubamba River," the Navy said. The wooden boat, which had departed from San Miguel de Shitari, in the Alto Amazonas province, was headed to Yurimaguas. The crash in the Huallaga River caused the wooden boat to capsize. Authorities rescued 60 passengers alive.
