Syrian President welcomes Iranian FM in Damascus

Syrian President Bashar Assad on Sunday met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and an accompanying delegation in Damascus. Assad and Amir-Abdollahian discussed bilateral relations in addition to regional and international developments.

Amir-Abdollahian’s visit to Syria comes a day after he represented Iran in a conference attended by officials from around the Middle East, aimed at easing regional tensions. During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation with the aim of reaching a higher level of partnerships at various levels, particularly in the economic and trade fields, as the two countries continue to suffer under US and European Union sanctions.
