
A huge crowd of people waited outside Kabul airport on Friday in the hope of a flight out of Afghanistan.
British and American soldiers worked together to calm the crowd and process Afghans to check if they were eligible for the limited number of evacuation flights. But many others were left outside the gate.
The Taliban say they have become more moderate since they last ruled Afghanistan in the late 1990s and have pledged to restore security and forgive those who fought them in the 20 years since a US-led invasion toppled them from power. However, many Afghans are skeptical, fearing that the Taliban will erase the gains, especially for women, achieved in the past two decades.
