Fire ravages 62,000 hectares in Bolivia

Bolivian authorities said that 62,000 hectares have been affected by fires in the region of Santa Cruz, east of La Paz. The towns of Roboré and San Matías near the border with Brazil are most affected by the wildfires.  The mayor of Roboré, declared a state of emergency, explaining that the fire started 10 days ago and has burned 17,800 hectares so far in his municipality alone. Firefighters are concerned about the fire reaching more wooded areas. Santa Cruz is Bolivia's agricultural heartland and already the region most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
