Ancient Buddha Images: Renovation Of Pagoda Led The Discovery Of Ancient Images

The ancient Buddha images were discovered in Wara Village of Kani Township in Sagaing Region while carrying out the renovation works at the ancient pagoda.

The renovation of the ancient pagoda was carried out by the donor with the supervision of ShweMawDaw Monastery Sayadaw and respective associations.

The Sayadaw said the discovered Buddha images will be kept in the monastery, and the relics will be enshrined in the currently renovated pagoda.

Abbot, Shwemawdaw Monastery, Venerable Pynna Wunsa said “This ancient pagoda lies to the south of the Shwemawdaw Pagoda. We are now carrying out the renovation of this ancient pagoda by the donor. During this process, we found these relics and enshrined repository. We started digging on 24th August, and the ancients Buddha images were found on the 25th.”

The discovered items included  the remains of 10 ancient Buddha images and 25 jade Buddha images and 3 bronze Buddha statues.
