Conservation works will be carried for century old Wat Ma Sut Monastery in Myaung Township of Sagaing Region.

The monastery was built by donors U Htin Paw and Daw Daw O in 1282 Myanmar Era, in an architectural design of Colonial Era with 11 teak wood pillars and 4 rooms.

The donors' family raised the fund for conservation process of this building, with an effort of a Myaung native Architect who wrote about this heritage building, aiming to carry out the conservation works.

Architect, Dr. Mya Mya Hnit said “Being a native of this region, I got an idea to implement the conservation process of this century old heritage. So, I wrote a research paper on this Wat Ma Sut Monastery in 2019. Because of this research paper, I got contact with the family of the original donors of this monastery and they raised fund for conservation of this building.”

A Conservation Committee will be organized to carry out the conservation process in cooperation with Sagaing Region Branch Department of Archeology and National Museum with the permission of the Regional Government.

Architect, Dr. Mya Mya Hnit said “The conservation process would be started with the renovation of windows for security of this building. Then we will work for stringing of electricity, repairing the ceiling, the stone pillar of front entrance and the wall that are cracking. We also plan to form a Conservation Committee and carry out the conservation of necessary parts of the building without damaging the original art works.”

The process will be arranged with the purpose of preserving the architectural works of Colonial Era as the national heritage through systematic conservation and also for socio-economic development of local residents through promoting tourism.
