Satellite images showed the extent of the damage caused to the U.S. al-Asad air base after Iranian missiles struck in the early hours of Wednesday.

A number of facilities on the base, including aircraft hangars, appear to have sustained significant damage in the attacks in the images taken by private earth imaging company, Planet Labs. U.S. President Donald Trump said that the strikes had not harmed any U.S. troops stationed there and damage was minimal. Iranian forces fired missiles at military bases housing U.S. troops in Iraq on Wednesday, saying it was in retaliation for the killing in a U.S. drone strike of powerful Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani on Jan. 3.
