Pace Process: NRPC And KNU Representatives Meet In Yangon

The National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) and the Karen National Union (KNU) representatives held a peace process meeting at NRPC in Yangon, Wednesday.

The meeting covered to reach an achievement and success of the peace process and to conduct the political dialogue to build the essence of the democratic federal union.  Before this meeting, the Karen National Union (KNU) representatives led by Vice Chairman of KNU Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win also met with the Lt. Gen Yar Pyae from Tatmadaw Negotiation Team to discuss coordination on the 10th of December in Nay Pyi Taw.

Chairman, Peace Commission, Dr. Tin Myo Win said “This is to find solutions to peace process. We all need unity through mutual trust in cooperation to go to the peace process negotiation. Views cannot be the same but our goal is peace making process. The representatives from both sides discussed to reach our goals by overcoming obstacles and challenges.”

The representatives from both sides have been participating in the peace process since the beginning. Meetings are to reach agreements, Vice Chairman of KNU said. 

Vice Chairman, Karen National Union (KNU), Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win said “We are making efforts for building a democratic federal union in accord with the NCA while political dialogues are also important. For peace process, we need the public’s trust in NCA. In this meeting, we discussed some of the main issues and reached agreement.”

This is the follow up meeting by the government and KNU representatives meeting in Chaing Mai from the 19th to the 24th of November.

Member, NRPC Advisory Group, Hla Maung Shwe said “This meeting had good outcome – there can be no barrier for continuation of Joint implementation coordination meeting and Union Peace Conference. Political dialogues are very important for the Conference. We still need to do a lot.”

General Secretary, Karen National Union (KNU), Padoh Saw Tado Mu said “We need to do step by step and we have to meet often to discuss and find solutions to the different opinions. Government representatives offered a meeting to nationwide ceasefire agreement-signatories ethnic armed organizations.”

The 3rd session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference-Union Peace Conference is set to be held in after January 2020.
