A new school building is under construction to relocate YePyaKone Village Basic Education Primary School in Paung Township of Mon State.

The State Government planned to move the school since there is possibility of hillside erosion as per suggestion of the geologist. The construction of new school building started on 15th September, beside Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway, corner of Mottama-KyaweChan Road.

The new building is 2-storey reinforced concrete facility, and it will cost over 100 million kyats from the Union budget, according to ThaePhyuKone Village Administrator. 140 students are currently attending at YePyaKone Village Primary School. 12 students died due to collapse of MaLat Hill in August.

Since the school location is likely to have possible land erosion, the students have been moved to the village middle school since later last month.

The State Government arrange school ferry daily. There are 21 places which is likely to cause land erosion in Paung Township, according to discussion made at Mon State Hluttaw Session held on 19th September.
