With the aim of preventing narcotic-drugs consumption, “Happy and Healthy Journey Program” was introduced in Nay Pyi Taw, Friday.

The Program has started since about 2-year ago. It is project toward No Drug Curriculum from US recommended by the world, focusing on raising awareness on the dangers of narcotic-drugs for the students and youths.

The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control is constantly paying attentions on prevention of narcotic-drugs, drugs consumption and rehabilitation and reducing the dangers of narcotic drugs.  The government institutions such as Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Sports in collaboration with private sectors and CSOs need to accelerate anti-drug programs among the public, a police official said at the event.

Police Lt. Colonel, Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Win Myint said “We mainly focus on the students from basic education schools and youths from wards/villages. We called for volunteering and 120 University students joined our program and we took two-day well-train to them in Drug Elimination Museum in Yangon. This is the educative program among the youths so they are very interested. We also carried out such kind of educative program in five major cities in this year. Prevention is better than cure so we set up drugs precaution measure and eradication program.”

According to the UNODC survey, about 162 million to 324 million people aged between 15 to 64 years are using illegal chemical drugs.

Program Director, AHEAD, Thu Zar Win said “We use the project toward no drug curriculum in Myanmar. We modify this curriculum to be suitable with Myanmar. We conduct pilot tests to use affectively and then make a training program. Last year, we also performed happy and health journey summer program at the basic education schools, offices and Social Welfare schools as the weekend program.”

Happy and Healthy Journey program has been conducted in Yangon, Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Hpa-an and Taunggyi from January to June of this year for the 29 times.
