Young Women Leaders: Girls Get Equal (GGE) Campaign Kicks Off In Yangon

Girls Get Equal (GGE) Campaign kicked off in Yangon by Plan International on Sunday.

GGE Campaign is being implemented in over 70 countries across the globe with the main objectives of equal power, equal freedom and equal representation for girls and young women. The campaign aims for self-development and evolvement of young women leaders who can assist the country’s development works. In Myanmar, the campaign will take place for a total of 99 days from August 12, the International Youth Day to November 20, Universal Children’s Day.

Gender Affairs Adviser, Plan International Myanmar, Phyu Kyi Khine said “The campaign will be carried out in cooperation with government bodies and youths for the girls’ leadership, freedom, responsibility, confidence and safety. Any enthusiast can participate in the campaign although it mainly represents girls. Although, we mainly target to girls of age between 15 and 24, boys are also welcomed to participate in this because they can help girls to reach their goals.”

At the event, GGE Ambassador, GGE song, photo contest will be held and Girls Takeover 2019 was introduced. As part of the campaign, International Girls Day will also be celebrated on October 11th. It is planned to conclude the campaign with Girls Get Equal mass walk and sports demonstration and performance by girls and young women on November 20.
