Yoon faces sentencing request Tuesday

The final hearing in the insurrection trial was postponed last week due to delay tactics by former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun’s legal team.  

Tuesday’s hearing is expected to proceed in the order of evidence examination by Yoon’s side, followed by the special counsel’s final opinion and sentencing request, closing arguments by defense lawyers, and final statements by the defendants. Earlier former President Yoon’s side notified that evidence review and final arguments alone will take over six hours.

Yoon is also known to have prepared around 40 pages of his own closing statement. Therefore, Tuesday’s session is expected run late. The court previously stressed that there will be no additional dates for the final hearing. For Yoon’s sentence, the special counsel team is expected to request the death penalty or life imprisonment.
