Yemen's children starve as truce teeters

For years, deadly hunger has been an everyday threat for hundreds of thousands of Yemen's children.

And as the war threatens to escalate between the country's Houthi rebels and a Saudi-led coalition after months of a tenuous truce, there are fears that it could get even worse.

The UN estimates that 500,000 children are in the similar dangerous state, known as severe acute malnutrition. The conflict in Yemen has pushed the country to the brink of famine and created one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters.

The stalemated conflict has turned in recent years into a regional proxy war. It has killed more than 150,000 people and created one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters, with more than 3 million people internally displaced and two-thirds of the population reliant on food assistance for survival.
