The time of celebration for all ages of Chinese residents in Myanmar for their New Year falls on Tuesday in Chinatown of Yangon with the presence of Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and Chinese ambassador to Myanmar.
Chinese Lunar New Year in 2019 falls on 5th of February, being the start of the Year of the Pig, which is the symbol of wealth according to Chinese culture. And the year ends on 24th of January 2020 according to the Chinese lunar calendar.
Chairman, Myanmar Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Myint Shwe said “This is the 3th time that we celebrated Chinese New Year. Today, we started with the offering Soon to 1500 monks at 4am in the morning. I wish that every citizens and earthlings to be filled with good things and blessing in the pig year.”
The splendid dragon dance and lion dance made the celebration more active and the festival was filled with bright red color which symbolized the Chinese lucky color. Merry makers and exhibitors took their places along the roads where the red lanterns were decorated.
Jenny said ““I’ m coming here today since this morning as this is annual Chinese new year. And every year this time, there will be those entire lantern decorated here and there will be many people crowded here. And you can do many things concerning Chinese culture such as painting this face mask, calligraphy…Chinese calligraphy and many other things. You can also watch the lion dance show there and it’s really fascinating here”.
Exhibitor, Nay Oo said “We are the organizers for this exhibition. This way, we are doing for what we call, “Zhong Guo Jie”. And now, our members are learning how to do “Zhong Guo Jie”.
The Chinese ambassador and his wife walked through the road and met with the residents and pay visited to the temple.
Ambassador, Chinese Embassy to Myanmar, H.E. Hong Liang said “I would like to take this opportunity to explain some of my good wishes. To the Chinese community here in Myanmar and also to the whole ethnic groups here in Myanmar, the best of wish is gong xi fa cai, Mingalar to all the people here.”
Wife of Ambassador, Wang Xue Hong said “Best of wish is for the Chinese new year, thank you.”
The ceremony continued all day and the China-Myanmar traditional performance stage was due at 7pm.
