Yangon Thingyan: Celebrations at Mayor’s Pandal and Walking Thingyan

In Yangon, the Mayor Pandal was opened with a festive celebration in front of the City Hall on Saturday.
After the auspicious recital for the commencement of the ceremony, Chief Minister U Soe Thein extended greetings. This was followed by formal opening of the ceremony, along with the entertainment programs of Yein dance troupes.
Likewise, the opening ceremony of Walking Thingyan took place at the People’s Square in Dagon Township, in conjunction with the opening of Royal Apex Pandal. At the Walking Thingyan, people can enjoy water throwing at various departmental pandals while enjoying the Thingyan snacks at the food stalls.
On the Thingyan Eve Day on Saturday, Yangonites from various townships enjoyed the festival, taking part in the pandals of respective townships. The Yangon Region Command and Regional Police Force provide security measures for convenience of the festive goers during Thingyan period.
