Xi holds talks with Surinamese president

Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with President of the Republic of Suriname Chandrikapersad Santokhi in Beijing on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation.
During the meeting, Xi said Suriname was among the first Caribbean countries to establish diplomatic ties with New China, adding that the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other as equals, setting up a good example for South-South cooperation. Santokhi said Suriname is willing to make positive efforts to promote the development of relations between Caribbean countries and China.
After the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents on trade and investment, green development, digital economy and education, among others. The two sides also issued a joint press communique between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Suriname. Santokhi is on a state visit to China from April 11 to 17 at the invitation of Xi.
