Wrist Tying Ceremony: Celebrating Kayin Traditional Festival in Yangon

The Kayin traditional White Thread Tying (Wrist Tying) Ceremony was celebrated in Yangon on August 17th.

The ceremony was formally opened by striking the Kayin traditional drum nine times. Member of the State Administration Council Manh Nyein Maung, SAC Central Advisory Board Leader, U Saw Tun Aung Myint, and Chief Minister U Soe Thein extended greetings during the celebration.

The Kayin traditional White Thread Tying Ceremony is usually celebrated in the month of Wakhaung. During the festival, young people receive white wrist ties from their elders, which are believed to drive away obstacles and evil spirits, and bring good luck, health, and strength to their body and soul.
