Qi Zai, the world’s sole brown-colored giant panda in captivity, emerged as a holiday favorite during the New Year break in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, drawing crowds of visitors to appreciate his snow play.

At the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center on the first day of 2026, Qi Zai delighted visitors by playing enthusiastically in the snow. Known for their preference for cooler climates, captive giant pandas are comparatively more active outdoors in winter, allowing them to better express natural instincts.
