The world's largest high-speed rail tunnel boring machine named "Linghang" has completed its historic single-head underwater excavation for the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel in China. This milestone successfully ends Chongming Island's lack of high-speed rail access, reducing travel time to Shanghai Baoshan Station to 17 minutes.

A vital section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway also allows trains to pass under the river at design speeds without decelerating.
