World's first 16-megawatt wind turbine starts operation

World's 16-megawatt offshore wind turbine off waters of east China's Fujian Province has been connected to the gird for power generation on Wednesday, marking a milestone development in the country's wind power equipment production and clean energy generation.

The 16-megawatt turbine's hub is 152 meters in height, 34 meters higher than that of common 10--megawatt offshore wind turbines. In normal situation, one turn of the wind turbine can generate 34.2 kilowatt-hours of electricity. It can generate more than 66 million kilowatt-hours per year, which can meet the annual needs of 36,000 households of three.
