World Tourism Day: Commemorative event held in Nay Pyi Taw

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended a commemorative ceremony to mark the 2024 World Tourism Day at MICC (II) in Nay Pyi Taw on 27th September.

The theme for 2024 World Tourism Day is “Tourism and Peace”.  In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister stressed that tourism industry is one of the largest service industries in the world which offers tons of job opportunities. By exploring different cultures and backgrounds, tourism nurture peaceful coexistence by promoting mutual understanding and broadening the horizons. 

He added that Myanmar is one of the diverse countries which possesses wide range of ethnicities, cultures, languages and also rich in ancient heritages and pristine natural environment which can attract the tourists across the world.

The government is striving for the development of tourism sector which brings benefit to the nation’s economy.  Stressing the crucial role of peace and stability in developing a nation, the Prime Minister urged for prioritizing regional peace and elimination of terrorism. He called for the concerted efforts of the individuals for the long-term sustainability of the Myanmar’s Tourism sector.

Then, a video message from the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization and a video clip featuring Myanmar Tourism development activities were screened.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to the winners of short video, photography, article, impromptu talks and essay competitions marking World Tourism Day. After the ceremony, the Prime Minister and party made a tour to the commemorative exhibitions marking 2024 World Tourism Day.
