





The Union Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, attended the World Tuberculosis Day commemoration ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw on March 24.
In his opening remarks, the Union Minister stated that the goal is to reduce tuberculosis (TB) prevalence and mortality in Myanmar to zero by the year 2050. He emphasized that the Ministry of Health is working closely with relevant ministries, domestic and international partner organizations, to combat TB. He also mentioned that the government is funding the purchase of TB medicines and medical supplies, with 15.5 billion kyats allocated in the 2024-2025 fiscal year for TB control programs.
Furthermore, advanced diagnostic equipment is being used to screen for TB in children, and school-based TB screening activities are being carried out.
The government is providing TB preventive treatment to children under five years old who live with TB patients, and plans are in place to offer TB prevention medication to individuals over the age of five. The theme for World TB Day 2025 is “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.”
The Minister highlighted the importance of all sectors committing to TB eradication efforts, with investments in human and financial resources to ensure that TB prevention and treatment services are accessible to all. He concluded his speech by visiting the exhibition hall at the World TB Day commemoration event.
