World Press Freedom: Union Minister addresses ceremony to mark the Day

The Myanmar Press Council organized a ceremony to mark the World Press Freedom Day which falls on 3rd May at the council hall in Yangon on Thursday.

At the ceremony, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn delivered a speech through Video Conferencing and the Chairman of the Council U Ohn Maung (Myin Mu Maung Naing Moe) gave remarks.

Also, Director General for the Media Development Department Dr. Thidar Tin reported the work processes for the media development. This ceremony also included discussions on national development and the role of news media, responsibility of news producers and democracy and freedom of the press.

The World Press Freedom Day is held annually on 3rd May by holding events and discussions all over the world and this year theme is “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”signifying the enabling element of freedom of expression to enjoy and protect all other human rights, it’s learnt.
