




The Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi delivered an opening remark at the celebration commemorating 2022 World Ozone Day which is the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer held at the Department of Environmental Conservation, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 19th September.
At the celebration, the Union Minister said this year’s theme for the World Ozone Day is “Montreal Protocol@35: global cooperation protecting life on earth”. The follow-up agreement of Montreal Protocol has the broader impact on the climate change and calls for the cooperation of international community to tackle the climate related challenges with collective effort, to accelerate the protection for the future generations and live on earth.
The union minister added that the depletion of ozone layers caused by the gases used in aerosols and cooling is the main challenge among the global environmental conservation problems. Myanmar signed the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol on 24th November, 1993 and is implementing to mitigate and halt the use of substances caused the ozone layer depletion etc.
Next, the educating video clip commemorating the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer and the video message sent by the executive director of UN Environment Program were screened.
Then, the union minister and participants observed the items for cooling and displaying of commemorative posters and the responsible officials explained necessaries.
The deputy ministers of the ministry of natural resources and environmental conservation, permanent secretary, heads of departments, members of National Ozone Unit, technicians on the air-conditioning system, members of association, entrepreneurs related cooling substances, teachers and students from the universities, college, government technical high schools also attended the celebration, its’ reported.
