







A commemorative ceremony of the 64th World Meteorological Day was held at the Ministry of Transport and Communication in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.
At the event, SAC member, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communication General Mya Tun Oo delivered an opening speech, saying that the theme of this year’s World Meteorological Day is “At the Frontline of Climate Action”. According to World Meteorological Organization –WMO, 2023 is recorded as the hottest year within the 174 years, and the period from 2015 to 2023 has been recorded as the hottest 9years.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that it is necessary to promote the cooperation between the government, people and relevant organizations in the local as well as regional areas to reduce climatic condition and disasters due to the climate change and to possess better weather condition.
He urged the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology to upgrade the technology to release the accurate weather forecast with the cooperation of WMO and partner countries. Then the video message sent by the Secretary General of WMO and the Climate Change video clip were displayed.
Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo awarded the first, second and third prizes to winners who participated in Article competition commemorating the World Meteorology Day. Later, Deputy Prime Minister and invited guests viewed around the commemorative booths.
