The World Health Summit 2022 was officially opened in Berlin on Sunday evening. The leading theme of the opening ceremony was 'Taking Global Health to a New Level'. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told the summit: "Networking and good cooperation across national borders are what matter - especially in the field of global health."

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: "Taking global health to a new level means we need a new global agreement or global accord based on a shared vision at exactly the moment when the world needed to come together to face this common threat as one." In his pre-recorded speech,UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for the summit to "move from alarm to action.

And let's deliver the stronger health systems that every person deserves."  The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also announced it would commit US$1.2 billion to support efforts to end polio throughout the world.
