World First Aid Day: Commemorative event in Nay Pyi Taw

A ceremony to commemorate 2024 World First Aid Day took place at Myanmar Red Cross Society headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday with the attendance of Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that Myanmar Red Cross Society is making concerted efforts in providing first aid services for injured individual, assisting to those who are in need of social assistance, participating in rescue operations, conducting health care services, implementing emergency ambulance service as well as preventing and controlling of COVID-19 disease.

At present, the society is providing assistance for public in prevention and control of Mpox disease. He urged the Red Cross members to try their best in educating first aid knowledge and systems to the public and share thier experiences at the respective places.

The Union Minister called for collaborative efforts of red cross members and relevent ministries for providing social assistance for the public. It was followed by clarification on holding the ceremony by the President of Myanmar Red Cross Society and the greetings by the officials from International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and International Red Cross Committee.

A commemorative video clip of World Red Cross Day was also screened during the event. During the ceremony, awards were presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes winners of first aid competition. Then, the Union Minister and attendees toured around the displayed commemorative booths.

The World Red Cross Day is an annual celebration across 191 member countries of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on 2nd week of September. Starting form 2003, Myanmar has been celebrating World First Aid Day and this year theme is “First Aid and Sports Ready, Set, Respond”.
