Themed 'Take the Rights Path,' the 2024 World AIDS Day commemoration took place on November 29th at the Ministry of Health, with the attendance of Union Minister Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Union Minister emphasized that the annual celebration of World AIDS Day serves as a key global occasion to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, calling for collective action across all sectors of society to unite in the shared goal of eradicating HIV/AIDS as a major public health threat.
In line with the goal of eliminating HIV transmission by 2030, the National AIDS Program (NAP), under the Ministry of Health, is actively advancing prevention and control efforts in line with the five strategic priorities of the National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS (2021-2025). The new HIV prevention strategy, which includes pre-vaccination for high-risk groups and self-testing are being implemented with partner organizations.
The government is boosting its annual budget allocation for ART drugs and medical supplies and prioritizing the delivery of essential medications to remote and underserved regions to eliminate the risk of shortages.
The ceremony then continued with the prize presentation to the winners of the essay, painting and poster competitions for World AIDS Day. After a video on Myanmar's HIV/AIDS efforts on prevention, the Union Minister and attendees toured the commemoration booth.
