A workshop on using rice husk gasifiers took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

The workshop was attended by Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, the Deputy Minister, MSME Agency Chairmen from Regions/States and Union Territory (Nay Pyi Taw), and officials, while the Chief Ministers from Bago and Ayeyawady Regions and officials from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Myanmar Engineering Council joined the event virtually.

During the workshop, Union Minister Dr. Charlie Than discussed that gasifier technology has been used in Myanmar since 1995-1996, especially in off-grid areas and places that cannot access sufficient power. It is mainly employed in the Ayeyawady Region for electrification in villages.

However, systematic technology implementation and environmental conservation efforts are required to enhance its efficiency. He called for the cooperation of all concerned officials to promote the systematic usage of gasifiers.

Union Minister Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw pledged that the ministry will make cooperative efforts with MSME businesses and experts, both theoretically and practically, through research works. This was followed by a general round of discussion by the attendees.

It is learnt that 412 businesses using rice husk gasifiers in Sagaing, Bago, Mandalay, Yangon, and Ayeyawady Regions were registered at the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection. Among them, 319 are used in operating rice mills, and 21 are used in other businesses.
