Workshop on Avocado Production: MoALI Union Minister gave an opening speech

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung gave an opening speech at the workshop on “Avocado plantation and production and challenges in exporting to foreign markets” held at the Ministry, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 26th October.
In his opening speech, the Union Minister said that the government is encouraging plantation production of avocado plants which is adapting with country’s climate and soil and focusing to increase the production of avocado and its value-added products to export and gain extended market shares.
As global trade of avocado, it fetched about 8 billion USD in 2021. The export volume of avocado was about 2400 tons in 2021 and it was exported to Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Britain about 700 tons in 2022.
It’s needed to make critical assessment upon the three-fold export plummeting. The attendees are urged to do group discussion and brain storming session for the improvement of avocado plantation and production, to stand as high competitive product in the region.
Next, the Director General Dr. Ye Tint Tun of the Department of Agriculture and officials clarified the objectives of conducting workshop, status of plantation and production of avocado and the technical requirements for planation and production of avocado.
During the workshop, the experts on avocado from the Ministry, responsible persons from Myanmar avocado producer and exporter association, private entrepreneurs and the avocado growers discussed regarding with the status of avocado plantation and production in the country, status of export, quality control, development of avocado and role of private sector and challenges in exporting to the foreign markets.
